TCNA Listserv

Q: What is a listserv?
A: It is a way to use your email to contact all TCNA members by using one single email address.

How to use the listserv:

1. Put the listserv email address in the To line of an email:[email protected]

(Please save the listserv address in your email contacts or address book.)

2. In the subject line, type TCNA: followed by the subject of your message.

3. Type your message in the body of the email

4.  Hit send. Your message will be sent to all TCNA members.

You will get replies to your posting from other TCNA members who choose to answer, but other TCNA members will not receive replies. The web committee set up the system this way so that TCNA members would not be bothered with emails containing a reply to a question they did not pose.

Listserv Rules and Etiquette

Welcome to the TCNA listserv. To ensure the best possible experience for all listserv members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

By using the TCNA Listserv, you agree that you have read and will follow the guidelines for this service. You also agree to reserve use of the listserv for topics best suited to the medium. In other words, this Listserv should function as a way for TCNA members to communicate, help one another, share information about the neighborhood, and otherwise strengthen our community. For example, it could be useful in searching for a lost pet.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with the following listserv guidelines. If you have questions about these guidelines, contact Sue Talbott, President, TCNA, via email at [email protected], or by telephone at 410 889-3318. To preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, TCNA reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership on the listserv service for members who violate these terms. If you do not accept these guidelines, please unsubscribe by following the directions above.

1. This listserv is run as a service for TCNA members, and your emails are not screened.   That said, it is absolutely essential to maintain a high degree of civility at all times.  Although we don't always agree on the details, we all want the same thing – a clean, safe, friendly, and enriching place to live.  Please keep this in mind and avoid writing any comments that may cause personal offense to other members or cast doubt on their commitment to these ideals.  Continued monitoring will result in removal of Members from the group, if these rules are violated.

2. Membership on the listserv is limited to members of the Tuscany-Canterbury Neighborhood Association and is strictly monitored.  In fact, you can ONLY us the listserv from the email account we have stored in the TCNA database.  For example, if you gave us a [email protected] account when you registered with TCNA, but try to send a message from any other account, such as your [email protected]  account, it will be rejected, and your email will not be sent.  This is to prevent outside vendors and solicitors from filling our inboxes with junk email.

3. Only send messages that are of direct relevance to the neighborhood.

4. Do not forward e-mails received from other sources to the listserv.

5. Do not distribute any SPAM, solicitation, jokes, chain letters, petitions for signatures or letters relating to pyramid schemes, missing persons or once-in-a-lifetime deal.

6. Do not use the listserv to solicit business.

7. No campaigning or requests for political action or proselytizing are allowed.

8. Do not use the listserv to request membership (“friends”) for social networking websites (like Facebook and LinkedIn).

9. Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted to the list.

10. If you hit "reply" in response to a message from the listserv, your reply will ONLY be sent to the original sender. This is intended to prevent clogging members’ inboxes with messages that are not relevant to them. If you feel that it is necessary to send a reply to everyone on the list, you will need to put the listserv address in the address line of your email ([email protected]).

        11. If you are replying to a long message, conserve space by deleting all parts of the original message that are not relevant to your posting.

12. Open discussions (such as your opinions about actions taken by the TCNA Board of Directors) should NOT be discussed on the listserv; rather, they should be sent to be put in the Community Forum section of the TCNA    website: or to the web administrator [email protected] who will relay it to the board members and get back to you on the matter.  This will help prevent all 260 members from having their inboxes filled with emails that are only of interest to a small group of residents.

13. Please avoid sending attachments, as these may exceed the allowable size limits for some members.   In the unusual circumstance that you need to make a large file available to everyone, contact the TCNA web administrators directly and we can upload it to the website.

14. If you send a message to the entire list by accident, there is no need to apologize; no one's perfect, but please don't try to recall the message, since the recall itself is not likely to succeed and may lead to greater problems.

15. Do not post other people’s personal information (such as neighbors' phone numbers) without first receiving their permission.

16. If you are not sure whether something is appropriate for the listserv, e-mail the TCNA web administrators.

If you've got a problem with your account or have questions or suggestions regarding the management of the listserv, contact me directly (off-list): [email protected]
